We'll done to two of our younger members, Christian Murphy and Aaron McCarthy, who were both in action today in Mahon. Both boys boxed very well in their exhibition bouts and did us proud.
Last weekend was a disaster, we travelled to Co. Offally with the Cork Team to compete in an ineter-county tournament!! However, due to Health and Safety concerns, the tournament was called off and we returned home without a fight for either of our team mates, Kieran Roche and TJ Homan!!
Next up was the Cork Leagues, where both Kieran and TJ competed. Both boys boxed very well, but unfortunately came out on the wrong side of split decisions!! Both boys will be back bigger and stronger next week!! Come on Sunnyside BC!!!!

Tomorrow night we have Patrick McDonagh representing the club in the finals of the 85KG All Ireland Intermediate Championships. Patrick is ready chomping at the bit to get in the ring and is fully prepared. It was a joy to watch him train this week, he is fit and sharp. We are all behind you tomorrow Patrick, you can do it, you WILL do it!!
We would also like to wish the best of luck to the other three Cork boxers competing in finals this weekend, Christina Desmond (Macroom BC) in the U22s final, Matin Noonan (Riverstown BC) and Kieran Regan (Loughmahon BC). Come on, let's make it four out of four for Cork this weekend!!

Well done to Patrick McDonagh who won his semifinal at The All Ireland Intermediate Championships this afternoon. Patrick will now represent Sunnyside Boxing Club in the finals next week. Patrick produced a great display for the second week in a row! Keep up the good work in training this week and we will be celebrating a new Irish Champion at Sunnyside BC next week!!
Congratulations also to Martin Noonan(Riverstown BC), Christina Desmond(Macroom BC) and Kieran Regan(Loughmahon BC) who all progressed to the finals of The National Intermediate Championships also. In fact, Christina Desmond will compete in both the National U22s and Intermediate Championships over the next two weeks! Congratulations Christina and Macroom BC!
Hard luck to all the other Cork boxers who competed at the Championships this weekend. You did yourselves, your clubs and the whole of County Cork proud!!
Hard luck to TJ Homan who fought a great fight tonight nut unfortunately came on the wrong side of a close bout against a very good Martin Faulkner from St Francis BC at The St John's tournament in Ballyhooley tonight. TJ is getting better with each fight and we predict a very bright future for him. Thank you to all St John's for putting on TJ's fight this evening!
Macroom BC continued their success when travelling to the St John's torunament with Noely Murphy ready to compete in his first senior fight with out a head guard and this also made for a good fight with noely coming out on the right side of a unanimous decision. 2 wins out of 2!!
Congratulations to The Irish team who competed at the Junior European Championships this weekend. John Joyce (Gold), Frankie Cleary (Silver) and Martin Stokes (Silver) finished in podium positions for Ireland. In addition to our three medals we had three other boxers who made it to the quarter finals, our own Oliver McCarthey(Brian Dillons BC), Ger French and Liam Callaghan.
Ireland finished in second spot behind Russia in the medals and rankings tables at the 2013 European Junior Championships in Anapa, Russia – both countries also commanded the top two positions at the European Elite Championships in June, Russia in No. 1 spot.

The new photo on our home page was taken in the ring at the Lagan To The Lee tournament at The Cork City Hall last Friday night, where Kieran Joyce, Michael Roche and Paul Buttimer, all Olympians and Sunnyside BC legends, were awarded with with plaques by the Cork County Board "For Services To The Sport Of Boxing As An Outsanding Ambassador"!
2013/2014 News
We are back after a short absence. The club has grown stronger and bigger in numbers!! We are now preparing for the Cork County Championships with Kieran Roche, TJ Homan and Michael Mc Donagh. All three boxers are in form and fit! Next Saturday we have Kieran Roche and Ryan Smith representing the club at The Annual Midleton BC tournament. Thanks to Midleton BC for the invitation!.

We have a big weekend ahead of the club this weekend! First up we have Kieran Roche and TJ Homan representing the Cork County Team VS Kildare at the St Michaels BC in Athy, Co. Kildare. Best of luck to you both and the rest of the Cork team!!
Next up we have Kieran Roche against John Kenny (Midleton BC) at the Midleton BC tournament on Sunday. Also up we have the dynamic Ryan Smith representing the club for the first time. Ryan has trained hard and is looking forward to his first outing! Come on Ryan, we're all behind you!! Up Sunnyside!!!!

Next up for Sunnyside BC are the Cork County Juvenile Championships taking place next weekend. The weigh in is between 10:00am and 12 noon next Saturday and the boxing start at 4:00pm, continuing on the Sunday and into Monday night. We have four boxers representing the club this year, Kieran Roche, TJ Homan, Michael McDonagh and Ryan Smith. All four boys are in great form and can't wait to get in the ring! Come on Sunnyside BC!!

We had mixed fortunes at the Cork Leagues last night. First up was Kieran Roche, and although he toally dominated the first round, won the second and again dominated in the third, a split decision was given against him!! However, we move on, it was good preparation for the upcoming County Championships.
Next up was Ryan Smith in only his second fight. Ryan was in against the formidable Conor McCarthy (Midelton BC). The last time these boys met was at The Midelton BC tournament last week when Conor won a close fight on a split decision. However, Ryan was not to be denied at the second time of trying and entered the ring with solid determination. From the first bell until the last, Ryan took the fight to his opponent, utilising his powerful jab and strong right hand. It turned out to be another eciting fight betwenn the two and this time the Sunnyside BC man came out victorious.
Finally, we had Michael McDonagh in against the talented Danny Keating from Watergrasshill BC. Whilst Michael fought a great fight, hw was unable to overcome Danny this time!
Well done to all three boxers on three great performmances!
Our fourth boxer, TJ Homan, unfortunately had to pull out through injury.

The bouts for this week's Cork Leagues have been announced, Kieran Roche will box Kalem Cashman Loughmahon, Ryan Smith will box Conor Mc Carthy Midelton BC and TJ Homan will compete against John Kenny also of Midleton BC. We have three club members competing at the Cork Leagues in Mahon this Thursday, TJ Homan will compete against Tony O'Reilly (Setanta BC), Ryan Smith will compete against Conor McCarthy (Midleton BC) in a repeat of their exciting bout last Sunday, while Kieran Roche will compete against Michael O'Driscoll (Riverstown BC). Hard luck to both of our boxers today. Kieran Roche and Ryan Smith both came out on the wrong side of split decisions. They were too cracking fights!! Both boys boxed extremely well and did themselves and the club proud. It was Ryan's first fight and he showed a lot of promise, one to watch out for in the future! Kieran is getting better with each fight and followed his outstanding display yesterday with another great display today. Well done boys!! Well done also to their opponents from Midelton BC, John Kenny and Conor McCarthy.

Well done to Kieran Roche who had an impressive win against D. Powell (Kildare BC) today at the Kildare Vs Cork Inter county tournament in Athy. Kieran boxed very well and was a deserved winner. Unfortunately for TJ Homan, his opponenent pulled out. However, TJ, impressed in an exhibition bout on the day. This was TJ's second time in a week representing the Cork team. Kieran will compete again tomorrow, representing our club against John Kenny (Midleton BC) at the Annual Midleton BC Tournament. Kieran will be joined by his club mate Ryan Smith.

Three of our boxers weighed in this morning for The Cork County Championships. Ryan Smith will compete at Boy 2 63Kg. Both Kieran Roche and TJ Homan will compete at Boy 2 39Kg. Boxing commences at 4pm in Loughmahon.

This week has been taken up with preparation for the upcoming Munster Championships in Ballybunnion next week. All four of our boxers entered have put in a hard week of training, finishing up with great sparring at Spartan BC last night, thanks guys, and a trip to Midleton BC this morning. Kieran Roche, TJ Homan, Ryan Smith and Michael McDonagh are all ready to rumble!!
It has also been a great week of training for our other members with some great sparring on Wednesday night. All of the boxers are progressing each week and we are building a strong team at the club!!

Sunnyside BC have two Cork County Champions, Ryan Smith Boy 1 63Kg and Michael McDonagh Yout 2 70Kg. It was hard luck for bothe Kieran Roche and TJ Homan, who both bowed out of the Chapionships today. Both boys gave it their all and performed brilliantly but were unlucky on the day! However,all four boxers now turn their sights to the upcoming Munster Championships in two weeks!!
